Philip Howard Bucksbaum
Advisory Board - Photon Science
I am the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor in Natural Science at the Departments of Physics, Applied Physics, and Photon Science, Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
I study the dynamics of electrons in ultrastrong electromagnetic fields produced by intense lasers in conjunction with relativistic particle beams. The phenomena of interest include non-linear Compton scattering, the strong-field Breit-Wheeler process, and ultimately QED cascades. I participate in a research program at SLAC to detect and measure these phenomena. I also study femtosecond and attosecond strong-field effects in bound electronic systems including atoms and molecules.
